The changes in our health drastically takes place as we grow old, and the older we get, the more noticeable these changes will be. These changes occurs discreetly that they can take place without us knowing it. Both mental and physical aspects in our health are the components of these changes. The decline in a person’s metabolism is one of the very first change that occurs. The rate at which a person’s body burns calories differs depending on their age, the older person burns calories slowly while the younger one burns calories quickly. This means that as we grow old our body’s need for energy found in food decreases compared to that when we were at our younger age. There is also a large decline of the sexual functions of an individual as he or she gets older. Also, the older we get the less we are able to achieve longer focus and the more likely we become slower and sloppy. These things can be an early sign of the degenerative condition dementia.
Sad to say, as we grow old our body is not as efficient as it was when we were younger. Our organs will gradually lessen in efficiency as it ages. Take for example the kidney, its function of cleaning the water in our body becomes less efficient. Aside from that, our heart will also start to deteriorate as we approach the twilight stage of our life.
What Are The Things We Can Do To Help Maintain Our Healthy State As We Grow Old?
Know that there is no time limit as to when we will start to invest for our future especially in our health. It means that if we are going to invest in our health early, then the rewards will come early as well.
It is of utmost importance for us to remain physically active. Having regular exercise will prove to be of great help if we are to maintain a physically and mentally fit body. With an active lifestyle, we will be as energetic as we were during our younger years and we will not be prone to depression as well. Exercising also provides a way for older people to be more social and help them connect to other people in the community. Walking and going to the gym provides opportunity for old people to socialize while exercising at the same time. It is however encouraged to see a doctor so as to be guided on the right exercise regime that suites your age bracket.
